A Brief Talk on the Preservation Method of Ion Exchange Resin

　　I. Preservation methods of resins

　　Adsorbent resin is usually stored in wet state. The temperature of storage is usually 0 - 40 C. When the storage temperature is lower than 0 C, the clarified saturated salt water should be added to the packaging bag to soak the resin. If exposed to air, the resin may be partially dry and dehydrated. Since most of the adsorbent resins are hydrophobic, in order to make the resin hydrate again, some dehydrated adsorbent resins should be fully immersed in methanol or other water-soluble solvents (such as ethanol and acetone). When the immersion is complete, methanol should be replaced by water washing.

　　II. Resin Pretreatment

　　In the production process of adsorbent resins, industrial raw materials are generally used, and the products are not further purified. Therefore, a small amount of monomers, porogens and other organic impurities are often left in the resin, so pretreatment must be carried out before use.

　　The adsorption resin pretreatment method is as follows:

　　The new resin to be used in the column will be immersed in methanol or other water-soluble solvents (such as ethanol and acetone) of about 2 times volume for 2 hours and stirred from time to time to make the resin fully swell.

　　The adsorbent resin which has been fully swelled is packed into the column, and methanol or other water-soluble solvents (such as ethanol and acetone) are passed through the resin layer at a flow rate of 3-4 times the volume of the bed per hour until the effluent is diluted with water.

　　After alcohol treatment, deionized water passes through the resin layer at a flow rate of 6-8 times the volume of the bed per hour, and methanol can be replaced and put into use.
